Mistley Quayside Maltings
No 1 Maltings is a unique pioneering maltings buildings from the
19th century that dominates the village of Mistley and overlooks the
Stour Estuary. The buildings are listed Grade 2.
Allen Tod was appointed by Essex County Council and the building's
then owners,Trent Wharfage Limited, to carry out a feasibility study
for the phased redevelopment of the buildings with a mix of uses,
providing employment and regeneration opportunities
for the area.
Our design approach respects the robust qualities of the existing
maltings buildings and complements these with a series of contemporary
elements that allow the building's qualities and its dramatic setting
to be appreciated to the full by those who use it.
The first major phase of the redevelopment is on site, for the building's
current owners, Gladedale Homes, providing housing, workspace and
leisure facilities.
Allen Tod is also developing a masterplan for the regeneration of
the quayside of Mistley with Trent Wharfage and Gladedale Homes.
