Northern School of
Contemporary Dance, Leeds
Allen Tod has been involved with NSCD for many years and formed a
strategy for the development of the school which attracted funding
for several phases of work to the original buildings, a converted
synagogue and Georgian villa, both listed Grade 2.
Working closely with us, NSCD was able to submit an early application
to the National Lottery and received awards totalling £2.4m
in 1995 to complete the development of the school and improve the
performance facilities.
Allen Tod created a series of new buildings that wrap around and link
into the existing spaces and which house
a new entrance foyer and social focus for the building, rehearsal
studios, library, offices and canteen. Improvements to the performance
space and facilities
have also been carried out.
The building contract was completed, on budget and
on time, in December 1997. The school stayed open throughout the works
and was officially reopened by Minister for the Arts, Mark Fisher,
in January 1998.
