Park Lane College,
Leeds
Allen Tod have designed a new 7 storey teaching block for the college
and a new entrance building that improves visibility and identity
of the college as well as improving accessibility and security.
The design has been driven by a commitment to produce buildings that
are energy efficient and has resulted in striking buildings with a
distinctive palette of materials and a range of energy efficient features:
timber
rainscreen cladding from renewable sources
timber
louvres to the windows to control solar gain
photovoltaic
panels to the south elevation to provide 15%
of
the buildings energy requirements
high
levels of insulation
exposed
concrete ceilings to provide a high thermal mass
a planted sedum roof finish that contributes
to insulation
levels,
absorbs CO2, and mitigates rainwater run-off
Construction has now started on site and the building is due for completion
in August 2004.
