Shipley College, Saltaire

Shipley College is a 19th century, Grade 2 listed building which forms an important part of the model town of Saltaire, built up around Salt's Mill by Sir Titus Salt.

The building houses classrooms, workshops and laboratories as well as ancillary facilities for the College.

Allen Tod was appointed by Contractors Alfred McAlpine as part of a Design and Build team following the failure of the previous scheme to deliver the required accommodation within the budget.

We carried out a detailed analysis of the existing proposals and through an intensive redesign process were able to rationalise the circulation.

As a result, we brought all the College's required accommodation within the curtilage of the existing building.

Construction began at the same time as Allen Tod's production information process. The project was subsequently completed on time and within the budget of £1.6 million.
