The Workstation,
Sheffield
In 1989 Allen Tod completed a major study with Urbed for the conversion
of the Kennings building, a disused 1930s car showroom and garage
of over 100,000 square feet.
We suggested redeveloping The Workstation as a flagship for Sheffield's
cultural industries quarter. This would entail revenue from workspace,
studios and education activities providing long-term income for film,
digital arts and employment in cultural industries.
Allen Tod carried through the design of the scheme up to tenant fit-out,
including interior and furniture design to the public areas.
As The Workstation, the building now houses a series of managed workspace
units, an exhibition centre, a nursery, the Film School of Sheffield
Hallam University and The Showroom, a four screen arts cinema.
