Yorkshire Craft Centre, Bradford

Allen Tod was appointed by Bradford College to design the Yorkshire Craft Centre, a centre of excellence for crafts and design.

The building houses a life drawing studio, studios for crafts and design including jewellery, casting, ceramics and glass as well as accommodation for staff, an internet cafe and an exhibition facility, the Bradford Gallery.

The new Centre links into and occupies part of Bradford College's existing accommodation in the centre of the city and the design incorporates imaginative planning to provide accessibility to the many different levels within the new and existing buildings.

A key feature of the new building is a stained glass wall onto a key circulation route in the building. The glass is hand-blown and illustrates an exciting contemporary use of a traditional craft.

The coloured glass incorporates a design produced by a young local resident reinforcing the Centre's links to the local community.
